Hey Dan, I tried looking at this PS sketch both here and on your blog but it's really dark. I can barely make out the outline of a character. Am I doing something wrong? Too much of a newb perhaps?

Lemme know if you can. I'd really like to see it.

Thanks and take care.

Sabertooth

Postby danvancool » Wed Dec 03, 2008 8:41 am

Sabertooth is a character that has been relatively dry for the last few years. Between the upcoming release of the Wolverine movie and a project my friend Dan Panosian is doing for Marvel... Needless to say Im getting into the character a bit more.
I was instructed to post this sketch, I jazzed it up just a little.

Where I work

Postby danvancool » Fri Dec 05, 2008 4:07 pm

We all got our new Business Cards back from the printers today. All of us at the studio made lots of great cards using our own poses with the characters from the shows we work on.

I was shooting for a Frazetta type layout.

All characters belong to New Machine Studios http://www.newmachinestudios.com/, and are from the our show Raven Tales http://www.raventales.ca/.

Pretty neat card. And this is a late compliment, but I loved the Hercules. It's a new look for the character, but also very true to the classic design.

Hey Gerald! Thanks, I do my best to stay busy with the little time I get :D
I started Writing and drawing/painting a few things for my own book http://seedsofmidgard.blogspot.com/ It will follow a story but much more illustrative. Small bits of sequential will be included as well but its to early to judge how much. Im shooting for a 2010 release. Lots of work to do on my own :D
Thanks again Gerald

Images for Seeds of Migard have been moving along great so far. This is a one man show and its taken a while to start rolling, but more importantly it is. As specific work get finished I will be posting it here: [link]

Seeds of Midgard is a Book im writing, illustrating, and publishing.
The format of the book is not comic based. The majority of it will be Illustration based. A Story told by a series of what I hope to be quality images that will guide you along the story. Im planning for a few exceptions such as panel to panel pages used only to specifically describe a moment or moments that I feel require more than one image. Break in the Illustration work such as this will most likely contain me using other mediums other than Digital or Oil Paint.
Seeds of Midgard is a Post Ragnarok Story of survival and a search for a new beginning in a world that has laid witness to the longest and most brutal years of genocide in its recorded history. As growing threats begin to repeat themselves, simple survivors emerge hero's to stand there ground to prevent Midgard from a fate it may never recover from.

More to come...

This is what Im working on now.
Color scheme Blocked In.
You can see one of a few fixes Im going to make on the girl in the corner with the knives. Im also going to re-position the hand of the guy in mid-right leaning back. His hand is right over the crotch of another character.
Goes to show that at any stage of the process you should be subject to change. Embrace it and You'll find your self improving faster.

The Calgary Expo was a blast this year. I met so many great people and hung out with allot who I haven't seen in a while. We had a great Drink and Draw at the Unicorn afterwards as well. Thanks to all of you who showed up to hang out either it be drawing or just to drink.
On that note, our Drink and Draw Calgary chapter has official Drink & Draw sketch costers on the way courtesy of Dave Johnson himself, and we have a group Blog now.

If your ever in town, contact any one of us Locals and drop by for a pint or 4.

So...
Its been a few months Since I posted last. I hope this dump of recent paintings, drawings and sketches can inspire someone on the forums.
If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

Thank you for all the support.
